Rifugio Menaggio (mountain hut)
Located on Mount Grona, Menaggio hut is one of the area’s most popular hiking destinations, reachable in about one hour on foot. The 360-degree views over the lake and surrounding mountains extend as far as Switzerland on clear days.
Privately managed and owned by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), the hut welcomes hikers with hearty food, shelter, and trail information. It is open daily in summer, on weekends and public holidays the rest of the year. It is the perfect starting point for high-altitude walks.
Hikes from the hutSeveral scenic trails start from the Menaggio Hut. In just 15 minutes, hikers can reach Pizzo Coppa, offering views of Lakes Como, Piano and Lugano. A longer trail leads to the summit of Mount Grona (1,736 m), where the view stretches across the Alps, from Monviso to Bernina on clear days. Another enjoyable hike passes through alpine meadows to the chapel of Sant’Amate and the summit of Mount Bregagno, with enchanting views along the way. |
