Discover Menaggio

The charming small harbour, the flower-lined lakeside promenade, the lidos, and the lively small square of Menaggio are the starting points for experiences between the lake and the mountains.

Menaggio Lakeside Promenade

Menaggio lakeside promenade is one of the most beautiful walks on Lake Como. This tree-lined avenue is flanked by elegant villas and hotels, offering stunning views over the surrounding mountains. The promenade runs along the lake, with manicured flowerbeds, picturesque views, and the unmistakable silhouette of the Alps, which are reflected in the water on clear days. All around cafés, restaurants and panoramic benches: it is the perfect place for a relaxing break or to enjoy a coffee or aperitif with a view. In summer, the promenade comes alive in the evenings with live music, art exhibitions, and craft markets.

Church of Santo Stefano

In the heart of Menaggio, the Church of San Stefano is a place of worship with very ancient origins. It was built in 1618 on the remains of a previous Romanesque church, with an orientation opposite to that of the original building. The church is open daily.

Belvedere la Crocetta and the Chapel of the Alpini

At 500 metres above sea level, Belvedere la Crocetta is a panoramic viewpoint that offers breathtaking views of Lake Como. It can be reached by a walk from Menaggio or via a shorter trail from the hamlet of Croce. During the First World War, Monte Crocetta was part of the Cadorna Line defensive system, and you can still explore its trenches, walkways, and emplacement. Here you will find the small Church of San Maurizio, known as the Alpini Chapel, built in 1975 to commemorate the war dead. Just beyond the chapel, the viewpoint offers an incredible panorama of the lake and the villages along its shores.

Menaggio Castle and Church of San Carlo

Perched on a hill overlooking the town, Menaggio Castle is a medieval complex of which parts of the defensive walls and two ruined towers remain. It is reachable by a walk from the village and provides spectacular views over Lake Como. Next to the castle ruins stands the Church of San Carlo, built between 1612 and 1614 in honour of Saint Charles Borromeo. It was commissioned by the nobleman Cinzio Calvi as a family tomb for himself and his wife. The church is notable for its simple yet elegant façade, built with exposed stone and brickwork, and its distinctive double-bell gable.

It is about an hour’s walk from the nearest access point and offers magnificent 360-degree views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
